BGSU Falcons Now 2-0 Against Big Ten: Rockets Win at Home

bgsuvspurdueimgBG head coach Dino Babers' Falcons defeated the Purdue Boilermakers 35-28 on 12-yard TD with just nine seconds to go in regulation. The victory evened the Falcon's 2015 record at 2-2, with both wins against Big 10 schools. BG defeated Maryland two weeks ago 48-27. Read the story of the game here. Later Saturday, the UT Rockets took it to the Arkansas State 37-7 at the Glassbowl. The Rockets improved to 3-0 on the 2015 season and are ranked no. 26 nationally in the latest NCAA top 30 poll. UT quarterback Phillip Ealey was selected MAC West offensive player of the week after throwing for 308 yards. UT's Orion Jones was named MAC West defensive player of the week as well. The Rockets travel to Muncie, Indiana to play Ball State this week while BG plays at Buffalo as both teams open Mid Am Conference play on the road.

And the made it count, edging Big 12 power Iowa State in the Glassbowl. The game was close all night, with the Cyclones taking a late 4th quarter lead, forcing the Rockets to come from behind for a game-tying field goal on the last play of regulation time. The two teams traded field goals to start the extra time period. Then the Rockets scored the eventual winning TD in the second overtime on a 10-yard run by junior Damion Jones-Moore. Final score: Rockets 30 Cyclones 23 Toledo beat SEC powerhouse Arkansas last week. UT now becomes just the third Mid-American Conference school to beat two Power Five teams in the same season. In the other Metro Toledo NCAA Football contest of the weekend, The BGSU Falcons were edged by Memphis 44 - 41 in a thriller at Doyt L Perry Stadium. The November 17 Battle of I-75 between the Falcons and Rockets shapes up to be a heck of a game.

NCAA College football in Metro Toledo rocks! When the 2015 NCAA Football season kicked off last weekend, the Bowling Green Falcons went on the road and gave SEC powerhouse Tennessee all they could handle. BGSU eventually fell to the Mountaineers by a score of 59 -30, a final score that doesn't reflect how close the game was for the first three-plus quarters. The Falcons are good. Their schedule is brutal. BG was back on the road for a game two matchup with Maryland. The Terrapins are now a Big Ten school. And Mid American Conference Bowling Green beat them like dirty rug. Final score: BGSU 48 Maryland 27. The Falcons next game is September 19 home at Doyt L. Perry Stadium, against the Memphis Tigers. Meanwhile, the University of Toledo Rockets first scheduled game, never happened. The Rockets home opener against Stony Brook was delayed by weather, until ultimately being suspended and ruled no-contest. Game number two on UT's 2015 schedule was on the road, at Southeast Conference powerhouse Arkansas. The Razorbacks were rated in the top 20 nationally. Arkansas was a prohibitive favorite to spank the Rockets. Final score: UT 16 Arkansas 12. The UT Rockets return to the Glassbowl for a September 19 matchup with the Iowa State Cyclones.
